EU ratification requires the agreement of a super qualified majority in the Council and the consent of the European Parliament. No individual Member State has a veto. However, Member States are very likely to have a veto over any Future Arrangements Agreement (FAA), creating the possibility that a Member State disgruntled at the WA could decide, in the future, to veto the FAA.   Agreement of the WA on the EU side can be challenged by a Member State or an EU institution that considers that its terms are incompatible with the EUTreaties. As the Canada plus FTA is on offer from the EU I wonder why the government is pursuing the damaged Checkers proposal? My understanding is that the Canada plus FTA is almost a proforma for agreements we would need to conclude with any other country, with whom we wished to have free trade arrangements. If anyone know why we should not use the Canadian version of an FTA please let me have details for this blog site.
