Peer slates Electoral Commission for ‘caving in’ to Remainer pressure on Vote Leave funding investigation

The independent Labour Peer, Lord Stoddart of Swindon has criticised the Electoral Commission for what he believes is their ‘cravenly caving in’ to pressure from Remainer MPs and activists over the re-investigation of Vote Leave’s funding of ‘BeLeave’ during the referendum campaign. Lord Stoddart said: “It is my understanding that the Electoral Commission, not only approved the donation to BeLeave, at the time, but it has already subsequently looked into this issue and found nothing wrong.  I find it very disappointing that they appear to have cravenly caved-in to pressure from the Remain lobby and decided to investigate again. The Electoral Commission is supposed to be an independent body and should not be seen to be influenced by political pressure. “It is very dangerous for our democracy for the Commission to give the impression that it takes action based on who shouts loudest in the political arena.  They should not allow themselves to become part of the conspiracy to

Verboten subjects in the European Parliament

This week, Stuart Agnew MEP sent this very interesting answer to one of his constituents who wrote to him about the persecution of Catalonian politicians.  It is very illuminating about how the European Parliament goes about its business!: Thank you for your email regarding the treatment of Catalonian politicians. The leader of our EFDD Group in the Parliament, Nigel Farage MEP, frequently talks about the situation in Catalonia when addressing the Parliament Chamber. By virtue of being a Group Leader he has high profile opportunities for speaking time. He only has two and a half minutes, and there are very many competing issues worthy of his attention. However, Catalonia is definitely one of his priorities. The reaction of the other Group Leaders is total silence. They are far from silent, however, whenever there is an opportunity to criticise the Prime Minister of Hungary, which they enthusiastically seize upon. There are regular human rights debates held here with a fo

Perhaps from an unusual source but disquieting; the information in this video implies positive discrimination in an unacceptable way, so are we as a 'culture' just becoming weak and fearful of our masters the press? https://youtu.be/h45n1CSetiM Have we given up the fight to be a free and independent people or have we just abrogated responsibility and passed on that duty to others who are not doing their job or are we more afraid of the consequences of being part of the fight than of those inimical to our culture? Is it possible that those we perceive as our enemies are just flies to be brushed away with a casual hand-wave, whereas our real enemies are closer to home and comfortable in the knowledge that their power base has a smiling face because we consent to their domination?

ROYAL FAMILY ACTIVELY EXERCISE CONTROL OVER PARLIAMENTARY LAW

This report by the Guardian NP throws a shadow over the so called Parliamentary Democracy we are governed by. Noting the anti Royal nature of the newspaper in question any analysis should bear this in mind but "smoke and fire" perhaps. Your comments would be appreciated. " Secret papers show extent of senior royals' veto over bills | UK news Robert Booth The extent of the Queen and Prince Charles's secretive power of veto over new laws has been exposed after Downing Street lost its battle to keep information about its application secret. Whitehall papers prepared by Cabinet Office lawyers show that overall at least 39 bills have been subject to the most senior royals' little-known power to consent to or block new laws. They also reveal the power has been used to torpedo proposed legislation relating to decisions about the country going to war. The internal Whitehall pamphlet was only released following a court order and shows ministers
